If there are fewer the four cases the health department will send an inspector to visit the restaurant but rarely do they take food samples. The suspected food has most likely been consumed by more then 4 or fewer cases therefore, one would acknowledge more people would be sick. With more then 4 cases reported, the case is turned over to the disease control unit and the Center for Disease Control will be notified. The restaurant will be throughly inspected and the food history of the victims will be recorded. If the inspectors find the cause the establishment will be closed and a complete cleaning of the restaurant will be performed after which the inspectors will reinspect prior to re-opening.
