What action is the EU taking to combat climate change?
The fight against climate change is a priority for the EC, as it is for EU member states. EU-level action is an essential complement to member states’ own efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Combating climate change is the first of the Sixth Environmental Action Programme’s four priority areas and one of the main commitments made under the EU Sustainable Development Strategy. The need to reduce emissions has been progressively integrated into key EU policy areas such as agriculture, energy, regional policy and research.
