What accommodation is there for homeless people?
Most people want a permanent, secure home of their own, but finding somewhere to rent if you are homeless is often difficult and buying is not an option. Affordable and decent flats, houses or bedsits owned by private landlords can be hard to find. Homeless families are usually entitled under homelessness law to local authority housing. Most single homeless people are not automatically entitled, but can still apply to their local authority for housing. Hostels and supported accommodation projects have been set up for single homeless people. These offer support and somewhere temporary to stay before moving on to somewhere more permanent (other temporary accommodation options include private bed and breakfast hotels). They are usually run by charities or the local council and vary in size, who they can accept and level of support provided by staff to residents.
