Here are some common abbreviations: LOL – Laughing Out Loud (or Lots Of Laughter) ROTFL – Rolling On The Floor Lauging AFAIk – As Far As I Know btw – by the way HTH – Hope That Helps (usually sarcastic) HAND – Have A Nice Day (usually following HTH) FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions ‘merkin – American (from the UK newsgroups – note that merkin (without the apostrophe at the front) means something rather different… ObFunny – An ‘obligatory’ joke attached to an off-topic posting in a humour newsgroup, similarly you will find ObPratchett on the Pratchett newsgroup. We don’t appear to have ObBret on the forum though. There are also others.
