What a reasonable price for an engagement ring?
With your kind of attitude I’m sure that your future fiance is thrilled that you are the one he is going to marry (and it’s refreshing to hear by the way!). The whole 2-3 months salary was a marketing ploy by DeBeers who have recently settled a class action law suit for driving up the prices of diamonds and having a monopoly on the market for the past decade or so. I filed a claim and am waiting to receive 50% of what my (now) husband paid for my ring…what does that tell you? Well, that even though he thought he got a great deal at the time (and I still do frankly) the fact is that it is a purchase where price is dictated by the market and not as much about true value. What that all means for you is that the reasonable amount to spend is whatever you would love to look at on your finger every day. That could be anywhere from from 200 – 20,000 (AUD aren’t that different in value from US, so the numbers are about the same), although you sound like you would fall more in the lower range
