West campus is a much larger campus than Southampton. How will my student succeed academically in a larger campus environment?
West campus is a larger campus than the Southampton campus and some classes on our West campus may be significantly larger than your student is accustomed to. All students are encouraged to utilize the support services that exist to enhance their learning. These include personal contact with faculty and teaching assistants during their regularly scheduled office hours, as well as accessing tutoring services available on campus. There are a variety of departmental tutoring services, which can be viewed on the Academic Advising website (http://www.stonybrook.edu/aadvising/tutor.shtml), as well as tutoring services in the residence halls (http://www.studentaffairs.stonybrook.edu/res/rtc/). Many offices on campus provide academic success workshops throughout the year, including Academic Advising and the University Counseling Center. Students are assigned an academic advisor who is a resource to your student throughout his/her undergraduate experience.
