Were to find M1 Garand Tankers?
Functioning is a problem. The whole geometry of the M1 rifle is messed up when everything is shortened. They frequently short stroke due to port size being wrong for the shorter barrel. Also, because of the opspring coil diameter and the shortened oprod tube, as the action opens the spring starts to stack and runs out of room in the oprod tube quickly which slows down the action. When working with a full clip the force required to extract the round from the clip and feed it into the chamber is greatest just when the action is at its weakest functioning point. If the spring is trimmed to allow the full functioning of the action then the action doesn’t have enough oomph to run it closed again. If the spring is longer to give the action the right closing strength then it doesn’t want to give full opening reliabily and makes inserting the loaded clip a real struggle. A tanker needs an oprod spring with thinner coils and a larger gas port to work. Usually the builder chops the GI operating
