Were there elections in the Soviet Union?

Hi Tom, Your other answerers are incorrect. Indeed there were elections, and there was more than one candidate on the ballot. The people had choices they could make — BUT — all of the candidates were members of the Communist party and were pre-approved by the Central Committee. Thus, the choice was always between tweedle-dum and tweedle-dee. You could elect a party approved Communist, or you could vote for a party approved Communist. See what I mean?
