Were there any positive outcomes or effects of the Vietnam War?
From Americas perspective. Before the war, America was on a real anti communist drive. It had a very aggressive foreign policy. Government could send troops into any country without fear of recrimination. After Vietnam, although America still got involved in funding unrest via native sources, e.g. Taliban fighters to get Russians out, it did little as far as direct involvement for some time. It also taught the American government that it pays to listen to the people when they say that they do not want a war. It also, hopefully, re-enforced that military solutions are not always the best solutions. Other than a united Vietnam, I don’t think the communists benefited financially. If anything the Americans are back dictating economic terms, with new zeal. However, it was a remarkable cold war coup for the communists.
