Were the United States and the Soviet Union rivals during World War 1?
Technically, the Soviet Union was a part of the Allies who were fighting against Germany and the Axis powers. Because of the German war on the Russian front, many resources were pulled away from the war in Europe, otherwise the outcome of WWII would have been much different. When the war was over, Germany was divided into 3 parts to prevent another act of aggression similar to what had started WWI and WWII. Russia, our reluctant partner, took East Germany and East Berlin as part of their effort to protect themselves from future aggression. It was just recently that The Wall came down, and Germany was allowed to re-unite.
