To be safe against anything less than an assault with medium/heavy weapons, all they had to do was fasten their seatbelts and use a skilful, sober driver. The attention-seeking idiots did neither. If anyone did murder the woman, he was very lucky. We can discount bribery of the driver; what use is a bribe to someone who will not live to spend it? We can discount a deliberate collision; given the relative weights of the Pricess’s car and any other around, that was always going to be a non-starter. It takes an incredible amount of luck for that sort of thing to happen, even if someone had a credible theory about the modus operandi. Then, motive. Even if the Royal Family were vengeful, the one thing they had to fear was that Diana would die. As long as she lived, as long as she progressively exposed her
