Answer (December 8, 2010): If you are referring to the 2nd time transport to the hospital for the over-consumption of alcohol, then yes. Over this past summer, CADE recognized a need to further support those with alcohol abuse and addiction issues. Someone who is transported to the hospital twice in a relative time frame really worries me. A student who goes through our Amnesty Program receives support and education in the hopes they will learn how to drink safely and responsibly and a second time transport proves the lesson did not stick. If a person is transported to the hospital for the over-consumption of alcohol for a second time, that person will be required to receive an assessment from a Certified Addictions Counselor (CAC). The doctor will be able to diagnose the student and place them on a continuum of use. If the student is placed on the far left side and the doctor deems the student as a “sporadic abuser” of alcohol, the recommendation might be within a range of education.
