Were the requirements developed just to address those educational programs accredited by institutional rather than programmatic accrediting agencies?
No. ARRT sets eligibility requirements for the certification of individuals and issues certification attesting that individuals have met those requirements. Feedback from R.T.s in administrative positions had suggested that they were not entirely satisfied that the educational and certification processes assured that individuals were appropriately prepared for professional practice. Comments received from administrators in reaction to early drafts of the competency requirements document reflect this sentiment. The concern was reflected by response patterns of administrators to the document. The question, “Are there clinical procedures included that should not be included?,” drew a substantial number of suggested deletions from educators, but few from administrators. In contrast, the question, “Are there clinical procedures listed as elective that should be mandatory?,” drew many administrator suggestions for changing elective procedures to mandatory.
