Were the Rationals still active then?
D: Oh, yeah. The Rationals were active right up through ’70 or ’71. The Rationals were the first band I ever saw, and that was at a dance at my junior high…it was the first real band, that were real exciting, real good. At that point they sort of modeled themselves after British Invasion bands, but with a white soul singer, Scott Morgan. They had matching suits and stuff, and they had the sound; they were playing through Vox AC-30s. The last time I saw the Rationals was opening for Pink Floyd in Ann Arbor in 1970 at Hill Auditorium. K: The Up weren’t much older than you, I guess. I just remember seeing pictures of what looked like little kids with bayonets on their guitars! D: Right, right.
