Were the holocaust camps a reasonable final solution in the public eye?
Anybody who says that is just a terrible anti-semite. It is sad there are still people who think like that, but anybody with any decency would know that is not true. But as for the ‘public’, the Germans were under the worst dictatorship (or close second to Stalin) in history. It was not a democracy, the German people did not vote to have camps in their neighborhood. I’m not saying none of the German civilians knew about the camps and I don’t mean they were blameless. I don’t know what the German adults at the time knew or thought. But I have known Germans who were children at the time. Some of them knew of prisons, just as people in the US would be aware of prisons, but if you asked why people were in there, they would say “They were bad”, “they are criminals” and did not understand what was going on. It was also war, and many from that time will not deny the Holocaust, but Germans who grew up during that age sometimes wonder why Americans worry so much about what went on in the camps
