EGADS NO! Much as I like that movie the clothing was awful! Movie costumers are notoriously bad about being historically accurate for period movies. Part of this is due to the fact that proper historical clothing doesn’t flatter many of our modern actresses. Clothing underwent a shift in the 14th century from a looser tunic to a much more fitted garment, and more dramatic overgarments. The women, especially the Josceline, would have have worn a fitted cote,with a sideless surcoat or other type of overdress over it, such as one with tippets hanging down. I believe some of the other ladies in the background nobility are wearing sideless surcoats. The lower classes may still be wearing the looser tunics however. Joceline’s headware is awful and doesn’t resemble anything worn at the time that I’ve ever seen. She’d have probably had braids on the side of her head. Chaucer’s “jacket” isn’t correct either.
