Were The Child Actors of Slumdog Millionaire Exploited? Wednesday January 28, 2009#spacer{clear:left}#abc #sidebar{margin-top:1.5em}zSB(3,3) Darling Latika (Rubina Ali), Jamal (Ayush Mahesh Khedekar), and Salim (Azharuddin Ismail) faced many dangers in the slums of Mumbai in the film version of Danny Boyle’s Oscar-nominated hit Slumdog Millionaire. The risks they faced were enormous: homelessness, starvation, and even child prostitution. Now a report has surfaced that the day-to-day reality for these children (recruited off the Mumbai streets) are not that far from their on screen characters. According to the children’s parents, the film’s producers have exploited the eight-year-old actors, failing to pay them living wage. Fox Searchlight defended themselves again
