Were the characters in Mark Twain’S Books used as people from his family?

I remember seeing a question on here about characters in Mark Twain’s books and one of the answers had a full description on the characters and how they related to his family. If you could please help me, I am doing a report on how the people that he knew influenced his works. I just learned about some of his books Thrusday and Friday The book about the steam boat(I forgot what its called) was about his adventures piloting a steamboat.
