The Serfs would almost definitely be expected to fight. Nobles recieved land from the King in return for military service, where they would be expected to fight themselves and provide a number of men to fight (namely the peasants and serfs) The vast majority of a medieval army was made up of peasantry, and only a relatively small number were the elite knights and archers. The Slaves would be the first peasants to be called up because these werre the easiest for the Nobles to contorl as they had to obey the nobles no matter what. The Free peasants were harder to control, and would be called up if the slaves were not enough. the noble would probably threaten to take away the land of a free peasant if he did not fight fwhen requested.
