Were Pyromania and Hysteria both recorded straight Direct Input?
RS: Pyromania wasnt, but High N Dry was. Mutt knew that the making of High N Dry would take quite a while, and we didnt have an endless budget, so the whole thing had to be done in three months. And to be quite honest, rather than mess around trying to get a bass sound, which can take a week or two, it came down to, lets just get the thing on tape through a DI, and when we come to the mixing stage, you can always put the signal back through an amplifier and speakers, and mike it up again. Thats basically what happened on High N Dry. To be honest, it suffered a bit, but at that time, there was a lot of give and take. What we lost there, we gained in other ways.
