We’re looking for a low or none shedding dog and someone told us the Basset Hound was a great choice – is that true?
This is most definitely not true. All hounds shed. Just because the hair is shorter is does not mean they don’t shed. If you want a good breed that does not shed, look for dogs listed as hypo-allergenic.
There are many hypo-allergenic breeds available such as poodles, schnauzers, labradoodles and shih tzus. These breeds still shed, but they shed single hairs much like humans and they don’t have issues with dander like other breeds.
The Chinese Crested sheds the least of all breeds (For obvious reasons) but they are very high-maintenance dogs and prone to skin conditions.
With any breed of dog, regular grooming will minimize the shedding and keep the dog and owner much healthier.
