We’re in a recession and companies are cutting costs. Doesn’t that make it a bad time for service businesses like couriers?
It’s actually a great time to be in the courier industry! Ironically, courier businesses tend to expand during recessions. This is because couriers actually save money for many businesses. It is far cheaper to utilize a courier who can spread transportation costs between many clients. Think of a carpool. It is far less expensive to commute when there are four people sharing the costs. By handling multiple clients at a time, a courier can spread those costs between 20 or 30 different clients, thereby creating huge savings for everyone. Also, many businesses cut back to the bare minimum staffing requirements during economic downturns. This leaves no nonessential employees who can run errands, thus reinforcing the need for a courier.
