Refer back to the death of Edmund Campion. Provide pupils with a set of sources about Catholics in England, eg the role of the gentry, the need for concealment, priest’s holes, the work of Walsingham and his spies. Explain that in law Catholic priests were executed not because of their religious beliefs but for treason.
