POWAY: One killed, four injured in early-morning crash POWAY —- A 20-year-old man was killed and four others were injured in an early-morning crash Thursday that authorities say may have been alcohol-related, said Sheriff’s Lt. William Donahue. The crash occurred about 2:35 a.m. when the driver of a Ford sport-utility-vehicle, heading south on Valle Verde Road, lost control near Edina Way, causing the car to roll at least once, Donahue said. The driver was reported to have been speeding, he said, and alcohol is believed to be a factor. The crash caused all five passengers, ages 16-20, to be ejected, the lieutenant said, and the car came to rest on its roof. The 20-year-old was declared dead and the other four passengers were taken to a hospital with unknown injuries, he said. Valle Verde Road was closed between St. Andrews Drive and Vinter Way as officials investigated the crash, Donahue said. It was expected to reopen to traffic sometime Thursday morning, he said.
