Were Aeronautical ENgineers sent to Space of NAsas STS?
A number of astronauts have qualifications in aeronautical engineering. Aeronautical engineering is the branch of engineering that deals with machines that fly. What they do on missions varies from mission to mission. For ISS construction missions, for example, the astronauts have experience in the thermal, mechanical, and dynamic properties of the equipment they’re building. And often they’ve participated in the design of it. This gives them the expertise and background to respond to problems that may arise.
