weeks pregnant, sweep was painful, how painful is induced labour?
Induced labour can be done in a few ways – repeated membrane sweeps, a prostoglandin (hormone) tablet can be inserted to ripen your cervix, you can be administered syntocinon (stimulates contractions) via a drip or you can have your waters manually broken (not recommended and is a last resort). A sweep has the minimal risk, the table and drip can over-stimulate contractions and the baby can become stressed but this can be fixed with more medications and then having your waters broken can risk infection if the contractions don’t start. Induced labour can be moe painful if they over stimulate your contractions, but besides the initial discomfort of a sweep the pain of childbirth is pretty much standard. Best thing is to really try to relax. You are going to feel pain, but you will get through it and you will end up with your bundle of joy for your efforts.
