WEEE Regulations, what are they?
A. WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Regulations are a set of EU directives that came into full effect on the 1st July 2007. You can access the directives here, put very simply it means it is now illegal to landfill any electronic equipment that falls within the 10 categories listed below: Category 1 Large Household Appliances – e.g. Fridges, washing machines, electric stoves Category 2 Small Household Appliances – e.g. Vacuum cleaners, Irons, Coffee machines Category 3 IT and Telecommunication Equipment – e.g. Computers, Printers, Cellular telephones Category 4 Consumer Equipment – e.g. TV’s, Video recorders, Stereos Category 5 Lighting Equipment – e.g. Fluorescent Lighting, Sodium Lamps Category 6 Electrical & electronic tools (except large scale stationary industrial tools) – e.g. Drills, Sewing Machines, Mowers Category 7 Toys, Leisure and Sports Equipment – e.g. Electric train set, video game consoles, electric running machines Category 8 Medical Devices (except all
