We work in the web handling industry and are trying to calculate how much flex a paper tube will have under load. Do you know modulus of elasticity, E, of a paper tube?
There is no one answer. The only way to now the E modulus is by test: 1.) You support a tube by extremities, load the middle and measure the bending. According to tube length, bending, and the inside and outside diameter, you can calculate the E modulus. 2.) There is also a way with vibration (special system). You apply a shock to the tube while it is suspended and the system gives you the E modulus. With the same material, same ID, and same OD, if you change the ply width or the distance between each ply you will have a different E modulus. The inquirer should contact their core supplier as the modulus will depend on the core construction used.
