A. Typically, sensor breakage is caused by either an installation problem or maintenance-induced damage that would not be covered under Meggitt Safety Systems’ warranty policy. After careful review of returned detectors, we have determined that there are two main causes for this sensor breakage issue; (1) incorrect installation of the detector to the support tube, resulting in sensor overhang at the end of the support tube exceeding the 1″ maximum as called out in Goodrich Aerostructure manuals, and (2) damage that is considered to be “secondary” as the result of support tube failure.
