You can still have all the advantages of doing events, such as publicity and fun, if you can get good partners like service clubs or a Friends group to take on the risk of doing events. These are referred to as third party events another organization is taking on all the financial risk of producing the event, but a portion of the proceeds are benefiting the library. It can be surprising, yet encouraging, that there are wonderful volunteers in our communities who will rally to help out a good cause. Usually a group will want some sort of recognition for their efforts so be attentive to what they would like. One caution though, you may want a written agreement with groups that are using the librarys name to raise money in the community. Its good to have this written agreement as backup in case something goes wrong and the event reflects poorly on the library.
