Asparagus from seed takes 3 years before you can harvest. Asparagus from a 1 year old crown takes about 2 years. Each plant can produce about 25 aspargus spears and plants last about 20 years. It is usually best to plant asparagus crowns in the springtime but other gardeners transplant in the fall successfully too. Thanks to Jackie Puff of The Garden Path Society for this answer.
