Water Quality — What if I have a severely compromised immune system?

0

Some people may be more vulnerable to contaminants in drinking water than the general population. Immuno-compromised people such as people with cancer undergoing chemotherapy, people who have undergone organ transplants, people with HIV/AIDS or other immune system disorders, some elderly, and infants can be particularly at risk from infections. These people should seek advice from their health care providers about their drinking water. The EPA/CDC has guidelines on appropriate means to lessen the risk of infection by Cryptosporidium and other microbial contaminants. More information about these and other contaminants and potential health effects can be obtained by calling the Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791. We test for Cryptosporidium weekly in both our source water and treated water. Cryptosporidium can be present in the Truckee River, but has not been found in the treated water that goes to your tap.
