Was walt disney rascist?
I think that this question is really hard to answer and is also a trick question. At the time that Disney was young and growing up and becoming a great individual, most races and most individuals posessed a considerably stronger racial view than they do today. You have to remember how much the country has grown and how much more intelligent we are today than things were twenty years ago or even ten years ago. I don’t think that there is anyone on this planet that isn’t blind, that is completely non-rascist. If they were, they wouldn’t even see the difference between one person and another. Racism isn’t even the word. The word is discrimination. Because it doesn’t only deal with Color. It also deals with gender, appearances, financial standing, famiy size, and the list goes on and on. So, you ask, Was Walt Disney a rascist for making light of rascism, in very subtle ways, in his time. This is nothing that stand up comedians don’t do today. Sarah Silverman, for example, constantly makes
I say yes! Let’s look at the evidence: 1) Snow White – ’nuff said 2) Of the seven dwarves none of them have names that begin with “La” or “Da” or “De” 3) Herbie the Love bug was painted white 4) The fat octopus lady in Little Mermaid wore black and was overweight which is an obvious attempt to associate positive black role models such as Nell Carter and Aretha Franklin with evil 5) The Giant Golf Ball at EPCOT is white. A clear indication that Walt’s “Community of Tomorrow” excluded black folks. I could go on but there is no need. I have made the case against Walt beyond a reasonable doubt. Racist! Racist says I and let no many gainsay lest he be declared racist as well.
