Was Vaccine antibiotics offered in NH as well as Anthrax biotic recently?
The State Department of Health and Human Services is offering anti-biotics and the anthrax vaccine to more than 80 people after an environmental sample at a UNH building tested positive for anthrax. NHPR’s Mark Bevis has more. The announcement comes after a Strafford County woman has come down with gastro-intestinal anthrax poisoning. She remains in critical condition in a Massachusetts hospital. Officials still don’t know how the woman contracted the disease, but they are focussing on a drum circle at the UNH Campus Ministry Center in Durham. Anthrax spores have been found on two drums and an electrical outlet in the building. Health officials don’t yet know if the anthrax on the drums is the same as that contracted by the patient. Some 60 people attended a drumming event at the Center on December 4th and another 20 people either work or live in the building.
