Was Uniteds win against Aston Villa a false dawn?
At about 6pm on Sunday everything was looking rosy and bright at Old Trafford. The fans had found a new hero in Federico Macheda, the two-game losing streak had been consigned to history and the quintuple was still on. But just three days later it all looks a bit different. Even against Villa United’s defensive frailties were still there for all to see and although he scored twice, Cristiano Ronaldo was still far from his best. (Ronaldo’s carelessness has led to goals for the opposition two games running now). Throw in another nervous performance from Edwin Van Der Sar, something which was evident even during their glorious run at the start of the year, and it’s clear United are stumbling towards the end of the season hoping they can continue to eke out the results just a bit longer. But with this morning’s news that Jonny Evans and Rio Ferdinand have both been ruled out of Saturday’s trip to Sunderland every game is now becoming more of a struggle for Ferguson’s men.
