Two local students arrested for refusing to tip at Lehigh Pub By Staff Reports Issue date: 11/20/09 Section: News Moravian College senior Leslie Pope and Lehigh graduate student John Wagner, ’08, were brought to Bethlehem police headquarters after refusing to pay the mandatory 18 percent gratuity at Lehigh Pub on Oct. 23, according to an article in The Morning Call. Pope and Wagner were part of an eight-member party at happy hour. After what Wagner described as “terrible service,” they were charged with a $16.35 service charge on top of their $73.87 tab. The group reportedly waited longer than one hour for salad and wings, refilled their drinks themselves at the bar and found their own napkins and silverware as the waitress smoked outside. The Lehigh Pub general manager declined to comment. Both Pope and Warner pleaded not guilty and await a summary trial before District Judge Nancy Matos Gonzalez.
