Was trench warfare a preferred way of fighting?
There were some bunk houses and shelters built, especially in the support trenches. And, the Germans entrenched first, on higher ground, so they had marginally better conditions. Also, the Germans invested more time and resources in making the trenches comfortable. Still, I don’t think anyone would call it a ‘preferred’ method of warfare.
