Was there oil/dirt on the rear of the trimmer engine? Many of the cheaper units have an o-ring on the rear of the engine that leak. You can remove the rear engine cover and use some permatex or silcone to seal the engine case. If this does not then the carb may need some work. Let me know if the o-ring sealer works.
