Was there ever a republican president in the last century that didnt go to war?

I can’t think of a president in the last century from either party that was not involved in a war of some sort or another. Both Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter had relatively peaceful presidencies, although they weren’t terribly popular. Considering the nature of the Cold War, we have been pretty much stuck in some conflict or another, directly or indirectly, from 1941-1991. George H. W. Bush’s original entry into Iraq was UN sanctioned, after open aggression, and ended once the original mission was completed. Of course, if you define war as being declared, then every single one since Eisenhower, as we have not been in an openly declared war since 1945. I’m only looking at post-Roosevelt presidencies, after the redefining of the Republican party in the face of overwhelming defeat in the Great Depression, to be quite honest. In short, America has been involved in military conflict almost constantly for our entire lives. Republicans are just known for increasing military budgets. George W.
