Was there ever a factory 427 engine installed in a Chevelle?
• A – No, at least not for general public sale. General Motors had a ban on any engine over 400 cubic inches in all intermediate (A-body) cars, Chevrolet, Buick, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac until 1970. That’s not to say that a high performance minded dealer wouldn’t install one for a customer, but not from the factory as an option or even through a Central Office Production Order (COPO) that has ever been publicly documented in a 1967 Chevelle.
