Forty miles outside of Springfield, in the small farming town of Beason, Illinois, five members of a family were found dead Monday after police received a call about a possible shooting. Though the causes of death have yet to be released, Logan County Sheriff Steve Nichols says the family were part of a “brutal homicide.” The only survivor of the attack, a 3-year-old girl, is in a hospital in Peoria, Il. There is no official word on her condition at this time. Logan County police are still searching for a suspect and have warning local residents to be cautious until the killer is apprehended. “Leads have been developed and are being vigorously pursued,” said Nichols. “…We are determined to identify and arrest those responsible.” The suspect is to be considered armed and dangerous. Investigators in Logan County, Illinois say five murdered family members were not shot, but aren’t saying how they died. Police want to find a pickup truck that was spotted in the small town of Beason before 5 members of the Gee family were found murdered. The small truck is described as a Chevy S10 or Ford ranger-type vehicle with gray primer paint and chrome exhaust pipes coming out of the bed of the truck. Autopsies were finished yesterday, but the sheriff is still waiting for more information. “The autopsies were concluded last night we’re awaiting the pathologist to get that information and review it. The one thing we can rule out is there were no gunshot victims in this incident, there was not a gun used” says Steven Nichols, Logan County Sheriff. Police were originally called to the house after someone reported hearing gunshots. The sheriff reminded residents to keep their doors locked because no one has been arrested.
