The US did not share the gyro system with allies, and they did not use the 17 pounder. I do believe it was used in the 76mm version of the Sherman, and worked just as well. The 76mm might have been heavier, but it was counter balanced as well, so it still pivoted axis just fine. The lack of noteworthy use of the gyro had more to do with training and doctrine than with the technology.
