Was the Wilco concert awesome?
BEFORE PLAYING three highly anticipated shows this week at the Wiltern Theater in L.A., the band Wilco performed out in the boonies Saturday at Pomona’s Fox Theater. The Fox should have hung the old “sneak preview” banner out front like in the 1940s. In any event, the show sold out its 2,000 tickets weeks ago, assisted by $42.50 each from me and many of my friends. Wilco’s concert was the Fox’s sixth since its rebirth – after Gogol Bordello, DJ Franki Chan, Pennywise, 311 and Reik – but the first any of us had attended, and the biggest, simply because of the Chicago-based band’s following. It was great to see the Fox’s tower sign revolving – even if its neon was sputtering – and the marquee’s colorful neon blazing, not to mention throngs descending on Third and Garey.
