I hear you… I had such horrible family problems last year and I’m a teacher. My dad passed away from a 3 year battle with cancer. It was hard to focus on anything or take anything really seriously. It probably affected my work a little bit, too. But I didn’t just shut off because of personal issues. If I had, I would have been let go, and not allowed to get that job back because of the reputation I set. I guess I’m just a big jerk, but I don’t really think you deserve a second chance there… try another school or another way of getting your course work complete. That school has written you off, and rightly so, as you’ve proven nothing to them. I remember a similar letter I received from one of my students about a month ago, begging for a second chance to get a passing grade in my class. She claimed she had issues at home and that they were done now and she would focus. She had a 45%/F in my class at the time. Since then she has really proven that actions speak louder than words.
