Was the Star of David used in Judaism originally an Occult symbol(the Hexagram)?

The hexagram apparently became associated with Judaism sometime after the fall of Rome. It’s a possibility that early kabbalists (Jewish mystics) introduced the symbol as a part of the extensive numerological and symbolic language they were developing. The meaning of the term “occult” is simply “hidden.” Since Kabbalah is a mystery sect, it qualifies as occult. Note that Kabbalah in this sense is *not* the Hollywood New Age religion that has some actors wearing red string on their wrists. That Kabbalah is an entirely different religion. Whatever the origin on the symbol, it is today associated strongly with Judaism, and as such, it has shed much of its previous meaning in the mysteries. Symbols do not carry any intrinsic meaning–meaning is ascribed to them by those who use or see the symbols. The Swastika, for instance, was once a strong Christian symbol, but anyone who tries to use it that way today is going to run into problems.
