Was the Spin-off tax free to Altria shareholders outside the U.S.?

0

Non-U.S. shareholders may be subject to tax on the distribution of shares in jurisdictions other than the U.S. In this regard, Altria has received advice from some foreign tax authorities and advisors, and anticipates that the Spin-off will be tax free in Canada and Sweden, but subject to tax in Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway and Switzerland. Altria is awaiting final advice from the U.K. tax authorities. Contrary to Altria’s News Release of January 30, 2008, Altria has subsequently received advice that the Spin-off will be subject to tax in Norway. The foregoing is general information and does not constitute tax advice. It is extremely important that shareholders consult their tax advisor regarding the particular consequences of the Spin-off in their situation, including the applicability and effect of any U.S. federal, state, local and foreign tax laws.
