Was the revolutionary war avoidable?

Certainly the Revolutionary War was avoidable, the American traitors’ rabble-rousing tactics were effective in swaying many of the colonists but there were many who supported the continuation of British rule. I think that if there had been a talented politician who had taken the situation seriously and hammered out a new agreement between Britain and the Americans, then war could have been averted. However the British politicians that were involved were mediocre at best and Washington and his ilk were more interested in grabbing power for themselves. If the Americans had stayed as part of the Empire they would have eventually got home rule like Canada, which is a fully independent country that chooses to keep the Queen as head of state. The World might have been better off under this arrangement, with World Wars less likely against such a powerful American-British power bloc.
