Freedom of Speech: The Founders of America defined freedom of speech as the right of a citizen or organization to state whatever they wish without fear of punishment by government, as long as the statement doesn’t unjustly harm some other individual or the community. There are numerous laws limiting freedom of speech of _expression. A man cannot shout “Fire!” in a crowded room when there is no fire. A person cannot drive at 50 mph on a road where the speed limit is 30 mph. Driving intoxicated is not permitted. Under libel laws, we cannot slander, defame or deliberately distort the character of anyone. Freedom of speech has limits and freedom is not an absolute right. A publisher has no right to propagate lies, hatred or character assassination and defamation.
