Was the old testament of the bible already existent and compiled as such, during the time of jesus?
Yes! In fact Jesus apparently had some training in the Old Testament. He quotes it and refers to it all through his time in the New Testament. He refers to ‘The Son of Man’, a figure in the book of Daniel, and quotes prophesy all through the Old Testament. And he speaks of the Mosaic Law in Exodus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.
in the time of Jesus they were but it wasn’t called “the old testament” it was called “the Tenakh” and whenever in the new testament they say “scriptures” or “it is written” they are not referring to any book in the new testament (as those weren’t added as scriptures until years after their authors died) but they are referring to what we now call the old testament.
They were writen by the prophets thats why they are named mostly after the prophets you find in them. They are called the books of the bible i suppose because they were written at periods by somany differet people about the trials tribulations and victories of there time. The Jews were a Holy People, esspecially chosen by God to gaurd and live out these teachings as they lived. They hold amazing history and are trusted as documents as well as Holy Scripture. They were and are shared by so many over thousands of years, Christians and non-christians sharing and witnessing the truth/the message and sharing in Gods Love what it is means and says. In the old days they were Gaurded by a holy army, and a Holy Gaurd, In Jesus time The High priests though they lived under captivity under the Roman Empire still were under the religious law allowed to gurd there temple and Holy scrptures with Temple Gaurds of which they had quite a number.
