Was the Oil rig disaster an “Inside Job”?
I read an opinion by a guy who works on these rigs, who said that it was nearly impossible that this could have been an inside job, and I’m one of the ones who believed in a conspiracy from day one. I do believe, however, that the handling of the disaster by the Obama administration is much more about what he can gain politically from it, rather than how to effectively deal with it. “Never let a crisis go to waste”, as Rahm Emanuel has so famously said. For Goldman – well, this could be a huge coincidence or it could be spun into one. What other positions did they take? Was it ONLY the Gulf, or ONLY that company – or were they shorting many offshore drilling concerns all at once? Politics has a lot to do with investment decisions – and there are investors known as “Contrarians”. Perhaps the pending announcement of the Carbon Tax bill was causing a lot of investors to go long on Gulf investments, so Goldman took the short position.
